six meals versus three? reading fitness/health magazines as often as i can, i always see meal plans that are basically broken up into six small meals a day. let me tell you that i have tried this and seem to become ravenous. this is an example of my six meals – breakfast – soy milk w/ 2 scoops protein powder snack – cashews or almonds lunch- tuna w/ light mayo or oilve oil and vinegar snack – 1 cup green grapes, cottage cheese dinner – omlette or scrambled eggs with salsa and veggies snack – apple looking at this i can see a lot of things wrong, like not enough fruits and vegetables. anyway i usually make this up with my 7th meal – yes, i have a 7th meal because after six i am very, very hungry. so it’s plain to see that this approach is not causing any weight loss. it’s confusing because my nutritionist has always recommended three full meals with no snacks in between. she works with athletes, too, so you can see how i get mixed up. if i could just figure out how to curb my hunger with these meals, i would do it. but it seems that most of my success has been with three meals and maybe a snack somewhere. if six small meals work for you, then great. i know it’s better for the metabolism. me, i’ll just keep experimenting until i find myself full. aug 15, 2017 posted by clayton on aug 15, 2017 in health and fitness | comments off on dangers of estrogen dangers of estrogen estrogen is a female hormone that everybody might be exposed to whether you realize it or not. whether it’s a good or bad thing, i’ll let you decide. awhile back i was on this soy kick, because a co-worker swears by it and i think he believes it’s the greatest thing the health industry puts out. when i started having stomache pains, i began to research soy starting at webmd. although soy may be healthy, large amounts can be dangerous because you can overload with estrogen. although it may be bad for men, it can also give women too much of the hormone causing havoc with their bodies. here’s a site that compares pros and cons on soy side-by-side. i disagree with some of the article, especially when it talks about muscle mass. i base this on that co-worker who first told me about soy and it’s benefits. there are those who make claims seem false or un-researched. these are usually vegan sites that love soy and tufu. keep in mind that i am not saying to avoid it, but just to not consume too much and think it is beneficial. the studies on orientals leaves out the fact that soy is not consumed in large quantities. still the arguments on soy go on and on and on and on and on and on and on! in another entry about a site of the world’s healthiest foods, if you click on soy, it will give you an objectionable view of both the good and the bad. in another discussion, someone wondered if men are becoming less masculine. i believe men are and i believe that estrogen is a big contributor. although this topic was about soy, other environmental factors may need to be researched. by research, i mean somethings may be far-fetched and i disagree with, but i rule nothing out. the co-worker i talked about trains everyday like clockwork. although he does have muscle mass, it seems to be less than it can be. i also feel that his chest resembles more the breast form than the chest form . this trend seems to be growing! the co-worker also like clockwork consumes soy and tofu like it’s going out of style. for lunch he eats a tofurkey sandwich, piled high, followed by soy chips(that are over 2 servings) and washes them down with soy milk. now i don’t believe soy will turn one gay or anything like that, but my co-worker, although he is married, is highly emotional (for lack of a better term). he does things at times that may be considered feminine. he probably would do well to review his options for increasing bedroom performance . let me repeat that i believe soy is very beneficial if it isn’t over-consumed. the problem is that it is appearing unnoticed in certain foods like whole grain. that is why you should always read the nutrition label and the ingredients. aug 3, 2017 posted by clayton on aug 3, 2017 in health and fitness | comments off on diet sodas and weight gain? yeah, right! diet sodas and weight gain? yeah, right! diet soda so, i’m sure most of you have seen the news articles floating around the internet about a study showing that people who consume diet soda risk being more overweight. the more diet soda they drank, the more their risk increased. doesn’t make any sense, right? some hypotheses were that if you drink diet soda, you might eat more to compensate. all right, i can see that. after all, who hasn’t gone into mcdonalds and seen people ordering huge amounts of food – quarter pounders, large fries – “and a diet coke”? but it seems like the people analyzing it were surprised that it didn’t make people lose weight. how is that a surprise? i would think that most people just drink it for the taste and their eating would not be affected. another idea was that when you drink something that tastes sweet, your body prepares itself for it and when it doesn’ t get it, you still want something sweet – i.e. you get hungry. i personally drink diet pepsi all day – well, about 4 a day – and the only time i get hungry is when i haven’t eaten. i steer clear of sugar at all costs, and i almost never crave it. this study reminds me of something my professor told us about in my abnormal psych class. apparently, in the summer, the incidence of crime is much higher – and so are ice cream sales. two things, seemingly unrelated. when actually, it’s that it’s hot, which makes people cranky, and also makes them want to buy ice cream. it doesn’t mean that one causes the other! correlation without causation, i think is what he called it. someone should tell this to the people who did the study. there could be 1,000 reasons why this is, and i’m sure there is a logical explanation. so for now i’ll go on drinking my diet pepsi. if someone can actually prove to me that it’s going to make me gain weight, well, then i’ll listen. chalk the findings of this study up to not enough information. jun 27, 2016 posted by clayton on jun 27, 2016 in health and fitness | comments off on healthy living for the here and now healthy living for the here and now when it comes to healthy living, things change quickly. sometimes old cures work better than modern ones. sometimes we find a breakthrough that can improve health for all of mankind. today the health industry is a big booming business and many times it is not as healthy as it is meant to be. this blog is meant to offer suggestions for living a healthier life. keep in mind that everyone is different and what works for one individual doesn’t necessarily work for everybody. read what i write about and decide if it works for you or not. always consult your doctor before making any drastic changes and getting checked. women aren’t the only ones who are going through health scares. their advantage compared to men is that they have a lot of people as part of their outreach circle, which is why they were informed and others were made aware. men on the other hand are going through their own health concerns, but not many are aware of the severity of the case. there are a good number of health concerns affecting men, and if you look closely you’d notice that this is indeed becoming a problem to a good number of guys. one obstacle is their weight and fitness. obesity is a very common problem in men, and the effects are very damaging to their health. if one is obese, it’s very likely that they are consuming fatty foods which are high in cholesterol. unless a lifestyle change is implemented, there’s not going to be much you can do to improve the situation. if one decides to h
